A Fair Future - Video Resources (Fairtrade Foundation)

  • A four-part film and lesson series produced by the Fairtrade Foundation. A teachers’ guide is also available to support teachers and educators to use the film series with primary and secondary classes.

How its creators describe this resource:

“Meet the farmers and workers behind your products through these short films for classroom learning. Whether it’s exploring the cocoa farms of West Africa or the banana plantations of Colombia, these real-world stories will inspire and engage pupils to take action for a more just world.

Through this series young people will:

    • Discover the historical inequalities at the heart of the climate crisis

    • Connect with farmers affected by extreme weather

    • Learn why trade justice is necessary for climate justice

    • Understand how to take action for a fair future”

  • “We look at Fair Trade as well. We talk about where we buy chocolate from, or we explain about how you get deforestation from countries that are less developed than us, and they're needing the money, and we're [richer countries] encouraging them to make that money by cutting down trees to make space for growing crops that we want to buy.” Newcastle-based middle school educator

“It's not just about Fair Trade, but it's about like who is actually in charge of the money, and often it's not the people growing the crops. So we did look at that. I suppose you're looking at global trade structures again, but in a kind of a simplified way that becomes part of the wider curriculum as well, in terms of trying to have that critical lens.” Dublin-based classroom assistant
